Balochistan

Background

Balochistan Deworming Initiative is a multi-sectoral effort led by the Planning & Development Department of Balochistan at the provincial level. At the district level, Deputy Commissioner Lasbela is responsible to chair District Management Committee (DMC) meetings to ensure smooth planning and implementation of the program in Lasbela. 

Deworming in Balochistan is planned to be conducted during the 1st quarter of 2022 targeting 164,248 school-age children in the at-risk district of Lasbela. As the out-of-school ratio in Lasbela is estimated to be 51% of the target population, the government of Balochistan will train both school teachers and health workers to conduct deworming and reach a maximum number of both enrolled and unenrolled children.

District Lasbela, Balochistan observed its first round of MDA between 16th-21st May, 2022 with the support of local district administration, district education office and district health office. The first round served as an awareness in itself for the local population who were widely unaware of the threat worm infestation poses for school-age children and will help in increasing coverage in future rounds to come.
